Professional Engagement
I believe that professional engagement was important for the continued improvement of my teaching practice. Therefore, throughout my teaching practice and university study I have continually reflected on and enquired about my practice in order to identify the gaps in my knowledge, and have utilised educational research, teaching practicum opportunities, and professional development opportunities to sufficiently address these gaps. Hence, the act of reflection and enquiry has been essential to my continued development as a teacher (Mason, 2020). Overall, teaching practice has enabled me to gain a sense of professionalism through my interactions with my mentors, university liaisons, colleagues, peers, students and parents, which has enriched my knowledge and approach to teaching, as it has enabled me to better understand the connections between education, home and community.
