Professional Statement
The conclusive ideology of my teaching study and experiences has led me to believe that the greatest importance of education is teaching skills and knowledge that are helpful or relatable to real life. Therefore, to me the value of a teacher is using the sum of one’s pedagogical knowledge to determine how students will learn best, and so, in a digital age, and as an individual who has grown up with technology, my hope is to integrate digital technology into learning for the benefit of students whose lives are inseparable from it, as digital technology is a staple of the 21st Century. Furthermore, digital technologies are able to enhance learning in a multitude of ways, which improves the ability of the teacher to prioritise differentiation and inclusive strategies for the benefits of all students, but particularly those with special learning needs such as visual or hearing impairments. Most importantly, the use of digital technologies completely diminishes the issues associated with equal access to learning materials and therefore learning opportunities, which is most important for student of low socioeconomic background; students who live far from their school; or students who cannot readily access educational materials due to their personal circumstance, as the teacher is able to use digital technologies to provide access to quality learning materials, which upholds the principle of educational equity and fairness. Therefore, in my teaching, I would like to use or create diverse educational content and/or platforms that motivates and engages students in learning that is useful not only in school but throughout life. Through this approach, I believe that students are able to see how education is both important and meaningful because they come to know that learning can represent real and diverse career paths in life, and so, they too can find a career, and thus a life, that is suited to who they are based on their talents, knowledge, skills and interests.
